NTT Ltd. today announced the joint venture company will respond to growing demands for international data traffic across countries in the South East Asia region

Tokyo, Japan – 10 October 2019 – NTT Limited (NTT Ltd.), a world-leading global technology services provider, today announced that it will establish a strategic joint venture company to strengthen NTT Group’s submarine cable business. The company is established with partners of Fund Corporation for the Overseas Development of Japan’s ICT and Postal Services Inc. (JICT) and WEN Capital Pte. Ltd. (WEN). Together, they will respond to the growing demands for international data traffic across countries in the South East Asia region.

1. Background

The amount of international data traffic is increasing due to the rapid growth of the South East Asian economy and the proliferation of mobile devices. As a result, steadfast connectivity between international data centers and the ability to scale, have become essential. To meet this demand, NTT Ltd. has been exponentially accelerating its investment to expand the submarine cable business.

2. Direction

To expand the scale of investment and shorten the lead-time to launch service, NTT Ltd. works in partnership with WEN, a market-leading marine cable maintenance company, and JICT, a Japanese ICT investment fund.

Through this joint venture, NTT Ltd. will accelerate the submarine cable business, respond to the scale and speed of service demanded by customers, and further improve service quality with its partnerships.
