Alabama Fiber Network (AFN) formed as a collaborative initiative between eight local electrical cooperatives in 2022 to meet this need, backed by support from grant funding. Comprehensive Network Security Features
SecureLink (SecureNet) and GTSM provide complementary layers of protection for customers on the Global IP Network. SecureLink offers broad interface shielding through non-globally-routed IP ranges, while GTSM safeguards BGP sessions against spoofed or off-path traffic.

Customers can use Blackhole and Selective Blackhole services to limit the impact of DDoS attacks on specific hosts. Blackholed /32 or /128 prefixes are dropped upon entering the Global IP Network, while Selective Blackholing enables region-specific filtering for more precise control.

Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) for Enhanced BGP Reliability
Bidirectional Forwarding Detection (BFD) with BGP provides sub-second failure detection and accelerates routing convergence on the Global IP Network. This helps ensure traffic is rerouted quickly and efficiently when a link issue occurs.
